Abstract

There is a significant relation betweenn nutrition and CKD. Patients  suffering from CKD are at risk for a number of nutritional disorders.  Within India, the rural states suffer from a high rate of malnutrition among  CKDpatients as compared to the urban states. Evaluating nutritional status  in CKD patients facilitates increasing the survival rate. Taking this into  consideration, the present research has been focused on assessing and  monitoring the nutrition in CKD patients after nutritional intervention.  Further, changes in anthropometric measurements of CKD patients post dietary intervention in rural India have also been observed. The study was  conducted in the OPD/IPD and dialysis unit of the Nephrology and  Medicine department. Total 90 patients of CKD stage 3-5 were considered  in this research. All the patients were provided with a customised  nutritional intervention plan. Central tendency tests have been conducted  here. The research found that MUAC and triceps presented statistically  significant change, while weight and BMI did not present any statistically  significant change in Stage 3–5 CKD patients post-nutrition intervention.  Further, the consumption of nutrients (water, energy, protein, and fat) has  been less when compared to the prescribed values. Keywords: Mid upper arm circumference (MUAC), Triceps skinfold  thickness, Anorexia, Diet.
